Various Opportunities, Limits, And Applications Of Blockchain In Gaming

Waves, an open source blockchain platform, and The Abyss, a blockchain game distribution platform, will collaborate to develop a blockchain-based marketplace of in-game items and digital goods.

As per the data in the blog post published on September 5th, The Abyss noted that their integration with the Waves Platform aims at launching a marketplace powered by blockchain for in-game goods and tradable items. This marketplace will purportedly allow the users to buy items using the Abyss Tokens and further sell them to other users.

Waves blockchain-integrated tokens

The partnership of Waves Blockchain and Abyss Tokens will enable the game developers to implement Abyss Tokens operations into their Waves-based games directly. The CEO and founder of Waves Platform, Sasha Ivanov, commented on this initiative saying:

“We recognize the huge potential of the $100+ billion gaming sector as a major use case for blockchain which perfectly fits with current gameplay mechanics and trading of goods. We strongly believe that the gaming industry will be an enthusiastic adopter of blockchain, and partnership with The Abyss will drive its widespread use.”

Previous collaborations

Earlier in spring, The Abyss announced a collaboration with Epic Games (the developer of the popular game Fortnite) to enable access to the Unreal Developer Network to the developers on their platform. A spokesperson explained the partnership saying:

“The program is aimed at attracting more gaming studios and titles to The Abyss platform, as well as supporting Unreal Engine developers in cryptocurrency adoption. More specifically, they will be able to accept ABYSS tokens both for game and in-game purchases in legal and easy-to-use way.”

Later in June, Waves also launched an upgrade to its blockchain system that allows decentralized applications, or dAPPs, on the platform. This upgrade allowed the developers to carry out calculations required for applying on the Waves Blockchain.
