We can’t have cryptocurrency mass adoption without cryptocurrency education. Why? Because educated people won’t invest in something they don’t understand, and uneducated people are too quickly lead to poor decisions.

Cryptocurrency has the potential to offer people greater economic freedom, but what people hear about is the scams and the massive price fluctuations of bitcoin. It makes both educated and uneducated people alike wary of converting their assets to crypto.

Instead, many people continue to put their trust in traditional banks, even though these organizations have proven that they cannot be trusted. When people deposit their funds into a bank, they relinquish control over what should be theirs by rights.

Once a bank has your money, they want to keep it. They make it difficult and at times, expensive to transfer it, whether to your account at another establishment or to a loved one. Cross-border transfers are especially tricky and costly, a growing concern in a global economy where many people are still sending money to their families back home.

One of the benefits of cryptocurrency is that it offers a quick and affordable method of transferring money from person to person, no matter where they live in the globe. No transfer fees, no conversion fees, no mental math of trying to figure out how much $5USD is in the currency of your home country. Crypto offers the promise of global financial freedom.

Despite this promise, many people are still wary about cryptocurrency, and the industry doesn’t necessarily make it easy for those with a low level of technological and financial knowledge to come on board. The average person doesn’t understand how to acquire and safely store cryptocurrency, and so they stick with the banks they grew up with, even as those banks diminish their funds with high fees and low-interest pay-outs.

For this reason, people need to be able to find easy-to-understand cryptocurrency education resources.

What should be included in a cryptocurrency class?

Different cryptocurrency education classes will have different aims. Some are focused solely on the technology behind the blockchain, while others are focused on identifying potential cryptocurrency investments. Still, others provide more practical information about how to purchase and use digital currencies. They might range from a quick overview to help people understand the news about cryptocurrency, or they might be a full college-level course.

If you’re looking to get practical, hands-on knowledge, look for classes that cover all or some of the following topics:

  • The most popular cryptocurrencies and how to acquire them
  • How to choose and use a crypto wallet
  • How to find a trustworthy cryptocurrency exchange
  • Spotting and avoiding cryptocurrency scams

How to find trustworthy cryptocurrency education

The great thing about the internet is that you can find anything and everything you need. The bad thing about the internet is, you have to know how to tell if what you’ve found is actually of good quality. So how do you find cryptocurrency education that is high-quality and useful?

The first step is to determine who is offering the class. Do they have an established history in the cryptocurrency community? Do they have a good reputation? And whether they have any experience with teaching blockchain or crypto concepts?

The second step is to determine how the class is being offered. Is it being presented online or in-person? Is it being offered in partnership with a university or other body of learning?

Your next step is to look at the price. Does the product seem to be a good value? Are you able to view any content for free to get a sense of the quality of the material? Are you being asked to pay a one-time fee, or sign up for a recurring monthly charge that may be difficult to cancel?

Another vital step is to determine the purpose of the educational product. Is it designed to share useful, unbiased information, or does it exist to convince you to buy more classes or other products? Be especially wary of any class or course geared towards investment with guaranteed returns, as it is a likely sign of a scam.

As with any purchase decision you make, look for reviews and student testimonials. Can you find good feedback from previous students? Is the class getting positive press in cryptocurrency and education circles?

As a final step, you may want to determine how up-to-date the course is. Because cryptocurrency is still an emerging technology, it changes quickly! Countries update their regulations, exchanges come and go, new coins emerge as industry leaders. An excellent educational resource should be regularly updated to reflect the latest information.

At Cointelligence, we started our Cointelligence Academy educational platform as a way to make high-quality, unbiased cryptocurrency education available to the masses. Thus, Cointelligence Academy was born. We currently offer our lessons online for free, allowing anybody to learn what they need to purchase, store, use, and invest in cryptocurrencies. We also host an online discussion group where our Academy students can ask their questions about blockchain and crypto, and we can share the latest news about the industry.
